Is it less than ten days to lift-off?

Date: 2008-10-10 03:25 am (UTC)Listen; if you're around and about the intersection of Pall Mall and St. James there is a building that is literally orange and white stripes of brickwork or masonry or something right on the corner. Its right across the street from St. James' palace.
That is the building that has a flat in it that I have stayed in many times (when my father was still alive, a friend of his owned the flat. He and his wife met there during WWII and promised themselves they would get a flat in London if they could. And they did.)
Very nearby that flat, I think across the street as you are walking parallel with the palace, is a tiny bijou b&b which makes the most fantastic scones & cream tea. And it has quite the old-fashioned sitting room kind of feeling as well, or did....15 years ago. Good Gad. Well, it might still be there.
And if you turn your head and look up the street, the opposite direction from the palace as you are standing on the corner? There should be one of those modern buildings that give Prince Charles a deep pain somewhere in his tum. Sticks out like a thistle in lillies.
Oh well. Fifteen years is a long time. But I am sure there is still a stinky cheese shop round the corner in Jeremyn Street. It might be bearable in October. In August it's a bit whiffy.
And if you pass by Turnbull & Asser (royal warrant holder for clothing for HRH the Prince of Wales) wave at it for my Dad, who loved those shirts so much the guys at all the fine men's stores in Atlanta saved all the shirts in his size for him when they went on sale. And the matching ties.
If you go to the ticket booth in Leicester Square and there is the opportunity to get tickets to the Reduced Shakespeare Company's Reduced Works of Shakespeare? GET THE TICKET. It's hysterical.
Also, be especially sweet to all the ushers at the RSC. Once, when Daddy couldn't take the "King Lear" matinee (with Ian McKellen!) any longer, he took off with all our money, by accident, and it would have been a very long walk if not for a beautiful young usher who tore a page out of his filofax and wrote instructions on how to use the tube to get back to our flat and then gave me fare to get home. And then he offered me a handkerchief to dry my eyes.
You are going to have such a fantastic time. England is awesome!! And you're going to see DAVID.
