Sort of a fic challenge, or just me thinking too much

OK, I'm watching Quickening in Season 3 of Angel. For some reason Wesley seems to know all about childbirth and how to use an ultrasound machine. My question is, how does he know all this? Where did he learn this? Was he in some situation before that required him to know these things?

I'll put this out to you writers out there to come up with how Wes came to be so knowledgeable about all this stuff. I'm coming up empty.
